It seems that nearly every day we are reminded by our clients of how confusing it can be when looking for some sort of assisted living in the Vancouver or Clark County area. Oh, it’s true that there is a good selection of the various types assisted living, but knowing which setting would be best and all the other important things to consider is overwhelming when you aren’t familiar with all the senior housing options like we are.

Just the definitions for each of the various types of assisted living can be a bit much, especially when you aren’t sure if a specific provider can provide the services you or your family member might need now and in the future. Then there are finances to consider. For instance, if you plan to use Medicaid, the senior housing option must be licensed by the state.

One of the Washington assisted living options include the retirement community and independent living facilities. These are adult housing settings (usually for those who are 55 years and older) where adults are most independent. Any medical or personal care is typically provided by a home health agency. These communities or facilities can be large or small complexes of single family style homes or apartments. They are not licensed by the state.
